What's Inside the Checklist

6 sections covering every part of your garage door — ready to print and use.

👁Visual Inspection
  • Inspect door panels for dents, cracks, or warping
  • Check for rust or corrosion on metal parts
  • Examine weather stripping along all edges
  • Look for gaps between door sections when closed
  • Inspect bottom seal for wear or damage
  • Check paint or finish for peeling or fading
🔧Springs & Cables
  • Visually inspect torsion springs for gaps or breaks
  • Check extension springs for wear or stretching
  • Examine cables for fraying, kinking, or rust
  • Ensure cables are properly seated on drums
  • Look for uneven tension between left and right sides
  • ⚠ Do NOT attempt spring repairs yourself — call a pro
🛤Tracks & Rollers
  • Clean debris and dirt from both vertical tracks
  • Check tracks for bends, dents, or misalignment
  • Ensure tracks are plumb (vertical) and level (horizontal)
  • Inspect rollers for cracks, chips, or flat spots
  • Verify rollers spin freely without wobbling
  • Tighten any loose track mounting bolts
💧Lubrication
  • Apply garage door lubricant to torsion spring coils
  • Lubricate all roller stems (not the nylon wheel)
  • Grease hinges at pivot points
  • Lubricate lock mechanism and handle
  • Apply lubricant to top of rail (chain/belt drive)
  • Wipe away excess lubricant to prevent buildup
Hardware & Balance
  • Tighten all bolts and screws on hinges and brackets
  • Check and tighten lag screws on wall brackets
  • Disconnect opener and manually lift door halfway
  • Door should stay in place — if not, springs need adjustment
  • Test door for smooth, even movement up and down
  • Inspect and tighten all safety cable brackets
📡Opener & Safety
  • Test auto-reverse by placing a 2x4 flat on the ground
  • Test photo-eye sensors — door should reverse if beam is broken
  • Clean photo-eye lenses with a soft cloth
  • Check remote and keypad batteries
  • Test wall button operation
  • Verify manual release cord is accessible and functional
